the question-and-answer function in the webinar is open and I said I'd like to introduce Miss Egan she is our assistant principal and this is her first quite a first-year to begin as an administrator and to our campus as well so this weekend will be here to assist me with the questions and answers and then lastly and once again this whole entire webinar will be recorded posted and sent out to all families in case someone couldn't make it or you wanted to review any portion of course I want to let all turn if you don't already messy Jen and I are always here for any questions and answers and truly has been a team effort this year and I my hats off to the to the students for their efforts this year I'll talk to the parents for jumping in and sometimes being a parent while also being a teacher and probably a technology aide other times and I can't thank you enough for the I forgot to made and I'm very happy and excited as my second is to begin to bring students back on the campus and allow us a different option in terms of our program I'm offering cats before I get started I also wanted to thank our web leaders and our web students hopefully your your sixth graders are taking advantage of some of the in-person Wednesday afternoon activities that we have scheduled for social connection. Her actions campus familiarity and school spirit. General school spirit so we had kids on campus today for the second week in a row on Wednesday afternoon first last recruited campus tours and this week we did we did stations if you will with different activities that the 6th graders got to participate in and it was fantastic walked around campus mad kids for the first time I'm going to kids are seeing online but certainly different in person and it was just it was awesome it was exciting and you can certainly feel the energy has a different sort of energy has returned to the so it's been great and thank you for trusting us with your kids so I'm going to go ahead and begin I'm going to share with you my screen and safety protocols sorry hold on one moment give me just one moment cuz I find those vile I'm sorry I'm still alive okay Jen thumbs-up we can see that awesome so this is our safety manual our health and safety guidelines that I've repaired over this year in preparation of returning students to campus as a variety of information but most importantly many many health and safety procedures that that we all must learn and adapt to nothing to unreasonable that I hope that we can all get together and understand a no in terms of making the next couple of weeks and then the remaining school year smooth in the transition and especially in the terms of getting the kids onto campus in the morning South I'll dive into that a little bit further this is also on the website stop pop up on the website says the very first thing you see you can't pass it unless you acknowledge it first so this is our basic information I would like to know our counselors if you haven't already met our counselor I think it's really important that especially our kids during this time when there are feelings of isolation and questions and that kind of thing from a student that they have support on campus important that kids are able to identify at least one trusted adult on campus this your end-of-year and right here are two great people that they can trust okay so general information here how to wear a mask this is all very important information but I have that I included I think it's very important but I also hope that by now most kids and people but for that matter all very comfortable wearing masks the one area in this slide that I would like to draw your attention to is this specific type of mask because type of mask is very important one thing that is truly important is that students wear the right type of not fitting Wise by the gator Gator mass that a lot of kids are very popular and they're very comfortable but they're the ones that sort of thing as a turtleneck and then double as a mask those are not permitted on campus and that is a direct an outline our guideline from our district nurse who is getting her guidelines from the Department of Public Health and CDC the gator neck are not appropriate for school so once again you know if they're if you have questions about that happy to answer them lots of great mask options I'm sure we all have a dedicated drawer right now at this point that our homes with mass overflowing and I do as well and so amounts are two are are important in that they stay on the face obviously very important so we're looking now at the what you can do so please make make a special note about illness because the most important thing that I can express to parents if you know they are certainly items that are associated with or symptoms I should say that are associated with probably have a covid like symptom and we think about what we're entering into is sort of a of a protective bubble a community within a community and we're working really if we want to work really hard together to keep the community open and available to students in person and so if if your son or your daughter is not feeling well I ask that you please keep them home we will make sure they keep up with their classes and make it, Nations if needed we'll figure that part out is super important that we try to maintain. Rule Above All Else if you report a positive test that information goes to me I am the Covington science officer for this school so we'll talk about the health screening in a moment reporting a positive test if unfortunately you had to report a positive test in any sort of circumstance that information would be teased me would be relayed to me, and we will make sure to keep that in the strictest, as possible there is contact tracing obviously so you know I would never share who specifics about a student but I need you to know that I am the covid-19 planets off travel protocols certainly a big topic right now as we enter into spring break time and the trust me I fully understand the desire to get out there and the quarantine per LA County Department of Public Health guidelines as a 10-day quarantine after you return if you leave La if you leave the state so that is also very important that goes again back to this idea of protecting our community and so we will make sure that kids stay current please don't let the potential or the thought the potential of a student getting behind because I have to quarantine because you want you went on a vacation prevent you or prevent you from not following the guidelines would be to quarantine okay happy to work with parents about specifics on that but I want you to I want you to know most importantly we will work with families are almost anything there's nothing we can't fit there's nothing we can't fix I need everyone to hear that very important okay we're here to help and support families we know this is a difficult time and we understand a lot of families have been making sacrifices since the onset of this samichlaus March and hopefully this will be the last time that we're having to make a significant sacrifice okay super important stuff here I tried to make it as a friend as possible if Basics on how to wear the masks really important that they stay above the nose I know that attempts to fall down quite a bit so making sure the math securely is important because what time is it happen as we do have some kids on campus and we've had kids on campus since October a very small number of students but sometimes adult math don't fit kids very well installed with the mask keeps slipping underneath their nose so whenever students and being responsible and and and accountable are fixing the the mask and then that means they're also touching their face constantly so making sure that they have a snug fitting mask is really important and also encouraged and just a great idea generally speaking our bathrooms here will will be sanitized on a regular basis and students will be encouraged to wash their hands all of the classrooms have hand sanitizer stations installed and so kids will have access to that one of the questions I'll just thought that was that was submitted what should students bring their own hand sanitizer yes without a doubt please bring your own hand sanitizer the less shared material the better we'll be at protecting our little community health screening perhaps one of biggest components to everything we will be doing it means everything and it's in it's there it is just thank you it is going to be a daily ritual it will be your ticket to school for your student and again it keeps our community as safe as possible so at every turn I have sent out the link for the beach is a beach Cities Health District student screening and there's we worked out most of the Kings over this year and in because any adults on Camp is also have to provide this information best advice to you is if do it 30 minutes before you come to school the reason why it says 30 minutes is in part because we want to make sure if you have any symptoms that that's your also your coming to campus and then filling out the health check at which point you may have infected are exposed somebody okay but equally important to that is that our Wi-Fi signal are your Wi-Fi signal or Wi-Fi signal as it were and our and your your cell phone signal is not that great here at PBI is always I would say it's probably especially if everyone's price how to get on at the same time while they're waiting in carpool to to finish the health screening you're going to probably have some issues if there are a lot of questions I think within this that perhaps you but maybe you're thinking them now if students don't have a cell phone parent cell phone will will work my suggestion would be that when you complete the health screenings you take a screenshot at the green screen that is located as an example and that message didn't show you can save that green screen and then just showed that and we will quickly get students out of your car and off to class very important step perhaps the most important if you are not when you get here we're going to ask you to pull to the side and complete the health screening on your phone or perhaps if if you don't have access to the internet we can do it manually meaning we would questions to you and you would answer them so you can imagine every thing outside of showing the green green screen will take Precious minutes off of getting students to class and suited and ready to learn important step and your your participation in and the corporation there is everything it means everything and getting us getting our kids on campus as you also know or may not know but are 7th and 8th graders will be all also returning to campus very shortly the drop-off points and I know this is a question that I have I'm here and we'll go through it in a moment the drop off point may have multiple braids that are dropping off at it and stuff locations but within the generally same area so as you know what we what we will deal with next week is just all sixth grade we may end up adding another grape jelly grape into that backs in just 3 weeks so you can if hopefully by then all of our sixth grade parents and us as a team are are well-oiled and fluid at that point and we can get the sixth graders go in real quick and if we have to start from the beginning with seven then we can do so on the main issue being not having to do both grades at the same time so cooperation super important again if you get a red screen do not come to campus and please alert me at compliance officer doesn't mean you you have coveted and you're banished and more importantly we will keep you caught up with that instruction okay we will keep kids caught up construction so green screen super important please take care of it before you arrive to school if you have any questions about that of course let me know once again stay home if on the in the manual here a reiteration of symptoms covid-19 symptoms will be super important to stay home if you have any of the following okay next question do you want to address a question related so when does came in about a student walking to school what about walking to school students arrive and depart campus many different places on our campus the most important thing is that doubt all Sims needs a ride at the same location all students need to arrive at the front of school so in this manual I have a Google map view that specifically locates notes where that location is if you've never been to the school that will be helpful to you but yes so all students need to enter through the main or the front of the school regardless if they walk carpool parent sibling regardless of how they arrived they will need to come and enter to be checked in at the front of school when we finish school 10 exit and a variety of locations typically a lot of students go down Agony and which will still allow that we have question 1 student congregating and walking a big group so there will be adults throughout campus when students arrive and when they exit to Usher kids either to class or off-campus and keep kids on distancing as as much as possible also while I'm on this I have a contact with PV Transit and while I do not believe they will be ready March 22nd with their their bus line again I would stay with you by mid-april they will have it up and running again now it's my understanding and speaking with them self if they take the bus again however regardless however students arrive to school they all need to enter through the front of Campus exit how they well one more related can my child bring a printout of the green screen cell. That would be more thank you I just it would need to be colored though unfortunately yeah I'm sorry would have to be colored I suppose you could write green on there I would hope that anyone would say their student with a printout of a red screen because you shouldn't be here in that case or the student should be here on campus protocols gamer talking about Mass hygiene hand hygiene frequent hand-washing we have thanks to the pandemic I found this on the internet called reading for many years I have little kids we we talk about stays in your hands do the Dracula thing that actually probably not prefer that is deadly. Preferred either one thing that we've been asking for almost as currency how many years is is tissues so parents having greatest applying tissues and teachers have tissues available so we have two kids grab a tissue and sneeze into the tissue if they got to sneeze so that's a new one respiratory etiquette social distancing of course we know that very important to try to keep social distance all the classrooms are set up with social distancing in mind at least six feet of space between all of our if there are any deaths that are inside of 64 feet is the absolute minimum maximum that they can be closed and there will be a divider in that case there are we have dividers thank you to the district for all students at every desk luckily our campus is our classrooms are our good-sized class and the amount of we have been able to effectively social distance most deaths by 6ft in most cases so it's really good I'm very happy about that and I'll talk more about classrooms in a moment we are not going to be using lockers for the first day of our future so backpacks are okay RP backpacks are okay and closely related to that I got several questions about materials so yes there was one specific question about math I'll use math as an example Pelican pencil and paper so kids can bring materials we hope that there are you limit the amount of materials the most important thing is that we're not sharing material or students on materials that keep them to their daughter cells should not be a problem we're not going to start using or Distributing textbooks as a rule of thumb we have we've made it to this point using our online are virtual versions of textbooks will continue to do so for the remainder of the year to limit the amount of materials that would be passed okay so students can bring some materials I understand that there are some classes that are using for novels for example they would need to bring sew a backpack is appropriate we can expect especially are sixth graders let's face it very very closely removed sometimes. You know the backpacks are bigger than them so we will try to limit the amount of materials are bringing this same message has been relayed to the teachers numerous times I'm as we prepared to welcome students to campus so no lockers for now backpacks to finish the year also related to this one of the questions we are allowing students to bring their own device to continue online and virtual learning whenever possible most teachers will continue to use teams as Maine academic platform there are also within teams are specific academic are instructional programs like eight packs study saying some of these words he probably cringe at hearing as a parent Big Ideas and then students will continue to use those in class so having a device is crucial having a device is crucial if you don't have a device we have Chromebooks to check out if you have a device and you don't want to send your stew with their MacBook that's also understandable they can check out a Chromebook in that case I had probably not a good idea unless you have well adapted it using an iPad that has a keyboard and perhaps a an apple pen and they can write notes and all those kind of things with an iPad cell phones despite all of our efforts to curb cell phones at the middle school level we are allowing students to bring their cell phones for obvious reasons for the health health screening when they're on campus they will not be permitted to use cell phones however so we will accept your sin will not get in trouble for having a so a lot of information there feel free to email me or Jen with any questions PE please encourage as much you can your your your students to wear comfortable clothing especially shoes because PE will they will participate actively in PE will be expected to wear mask the entire time I won't be shared materials as I as I explained just a few moments ago so there won't be shared basketball or football but are PE teachers are great and they will they will they been very anxiously awaiting Test 2 tap teaching in person because I don't know if there's another class that doesn't translate as well as PE to our virtual world so he's going to be good it's going to be great for kids will do for exercising you know 1% I'll probably do a lot of running endurance running core workouts as I said I will keep them active and engaged so and social distance so come from close no dressing out and please wear masks water if water is obviously important we will have our refilling stations available if you if you have have the option to give your student a water bottle that has a straw that's awesome then they don't ever have to take off their masks but you know what does that may be a detail this not worth even discussing because as soon as in a drink of water in class will figure it out they can step outside we'll figure it out still only necessary staff has permitted on campus that will that will maintain for the fur future and then lastly here are HVAC system so if your students I don't think you're stupid in one of our Portables if they're in the walls we have HVAC cleaning Heating and Air and if they're not if they're in one of the other pods they have heaters using circulated are so all of our HVAC systems whether they're in the pods or the have all been updated with with a new air filters in addition to that our teachers will be receiving air air filter Buy portable air filter stand Tracen systems that they can plug in and use in the classrooms and perhaps the best part about all of this is that our classrooms I'm in particular the pods are play some of the best in the class has been in the district in terms of air circulation if you've read or stay the rest of exposure likelihood air circulation is is really important we are lucky that all of our classrooms have cross ventilation so all of the doors are mostly I guess it would be east and west facing doors will be opened in class so I am I'm very satisfied and happy that that will recirculating air as well as getting a cross ventilation of air in most of our classrooms and lesser in the portable in which case doors will still be open they do have window the Portables those will be open and all filters are brand new and we'll keep those will keep does replenish out the year okay so here's some actual pictures of our campus lots of one-way traffic and I think this was super important component to our campus tours that we had last week and great that are 6th grader actually don't know any better I'll just maybe more of a challenge for us to get the 7th Day returning students to follow the directional arrows as they've been on campus and they're all pros at getting from point A to point B A lot quicker than they may now have to class will work with any situation if kids are end up being tardy because they have to take the long way around then we will work it out there's nothing we can't fix once again so directional arrows all throughout Campus Student Center One Direction into classrooms and exit out another Direction the idea of the goal is that students never are fighting upstream or crossing one another face-to-face all one-way traffic lots of CDC signs as you can see here spread through our campus just as friendly reminders to kids and classroom C some great pictures of of how to say how to clean and organize our classrooms look and they really do I want to reassure you that Miss Egan and I have spent a great deal of time in our classrooms are custodian has done great work our classrooms have actually been mostly ready since October and so we have had the luxury of just tweaking things over the past month in preparation of the reality that our students are coming to campus so this this is very a pleasing to me as a minimalist I love to see these classrooms clean and organized we do have some temporary hand washing stations available on once again we have sanitizing stations also please have kids bring their own hand sanitizer frequent hand-washing next page so this really cool contraption that Hector that as our custodian on that is an electromagnetic sprayer and it is basically a missed UPS sizing spray and he will be walking throughout campus throughout the day sanitizing bathrooms on a regular basis high-touch areas such as rails and potentially door handles but should be open but will look like for a student I do have a Chromebook on the desk with a divider and 6 feet of space the doors are open in this picture so it is it is ready for students couple more examples of one-way traffic we have enter and exit only. bottom right on our pod that is a Google Earth picture that is actually the 6th grade pod you're looking at so we have we have four classes in there for 6th grade classes in there we have one sixth grade class of the seventh grade pod and then we have one sixth grade class in the 8th grade pod I fully understand and recognize that kids have these are six orders I've never been to campus so giving them a room number or sayings Miss what has classes this is is in that pod doesn't help them at least initially so we will have adults on the first day first week at campus posted just for that reason to help students class 1a students enter as you can see what the yellow directional arrows they will find their class and if the teacher is there and open the door great they'll go into their assigned seats assigned seating is very very important and will be mandatory in the event that we unfortunately had an exposure and we needed to contact raise we would need to identify be able to identify those students that were in proximity to that student with that case so once again students will be dropped off their will check their help with it will be checked for their health screening by several adults will have at least four adults out front to try to expedite it as quickly as possible and then students will enter the pods as they normally would and the only difference here is that they'll exit out the back door so say you have two classes in the Pod first and second. You would you would literally the students will have to enter and then exit and then enter again to like in a circular motion so yes seems a little ridiculous but it is all about minimizing exposure and one-way path of travel so I hope you can understand that idea once again this manual is located our website for your further review and if you have any questions please let me know as we discussed the arrival and dismissal super important it's in one location will have no matter how you get here you'll be dropped off in the front will have multiple staff members checking in students and then and then if you can imagine another wave of of adults will be present to to help him get to class and keep it moving important that they don't stop in Congress so with that said the all-important schedule and I want to make sure I take some time here and end review any questions before we dive into the schedule I want to students should arrive if you are first. Begins at 8:15 coordination and synchronous asynchronous flow is going to be very important okay so we're going to ask that sixth grade students arrive at 8:05 start arriving at 8:05 between 8 and 8:05 is okay if you have work I understand you may not be able to all of that but we want to minimize the amount of time that students end up having to wait outside of a classroom I've been teacher is not ready to begin or maybe the teachers in restroom are who knows we wanted minimize at times have basically we want to do the whole check in our goal and it her house is locked but we will see is 10 minutes in 10 minutes so we just say 8 would be a grade drop off time absolute I have to try to remember this unusual 805 drop on us would be a great drop off time and then once again exiting campus they can exit in any way possible we just want to let your kids off as quickly as fast as we can prevent congregating in and trying to manage the social distancing at that part will be will be would be a challenge so hopefully you can understand very popular this year will be available every day including Wednesday kids won't be here on Monday that will be the same schedule like students are are highly encouraged to grab a lunch on their way home for the day and and and those are available every day and I believe they're still so even better so the schedule overwhelming for you to see but I want to explain and I'm actually going to send a revised schedule and I'll update this manual as soon as possible with the revised schedule we would like the best way I can explain it for me I'll use myself as an example we are we are breaking up the alpha split the two groups and the red and the bee being bi or black are the two groups we split them up by alphabet A through K Al terzi is that correct Michigan will do so that information was also sent to you and so if I'm group kiss my last name is Farrell the best way I can describe what the schedule does is give you an example of what it looks like for me if I was coming to school on Monday and Tuesday of next week we will only cra we will only see our red group on Monday and Tuesday Wednesday will be at home a sink time for everybody as it is now and a cleaning day for us then we'll pick back up within person learning Thursday and Friday for RB group okay if I'm at now back to the back to Monday I'm in a group because I'm last name is Farrell I will arrive to school at 8 on Monday two periods one through three yes they will be moving from periods 1 2 3 at that point I should say to that we would also have RB group learning virtually then at lunch students will be asked to get home and jump back online where a b group will pick up together annual continue learning virtually for the remainder of the day so if you can think about it and another way in the morning is always in person or the group that morning is in person General East 18th and B is at home for everybody so morning is in person for a or b depending on the day and B is a and b online so this is an important part because I know there are some questions that have come up and I want parents to fully understand that our expectation our hope is that kids can get home at lunch and back on for periods for 5 and 6 or 1 2 and 3 days stay paste with their classmates I hope that you understand that moreover we want to make sure I said states heathered to the academic program another words of students if they true myself went home for periods for 5 and 6 on Monday but had a synchronous work assigned I may or may not do that work right away parents aren't home or they're working from home I may choose to you know go to the beach or go skating with my friends who knows if we strongly feel that the Heather to bomb the curriculum will be super important for the kids and and most importantly for them it will keep everyone pays together okay so there may be a lot of questions that come out of this I want to just I want to just leave you with this of course I'll answer questions Monday we will see Monday and Tuesday we will see you on Monday and Tuesday morning Thursday and Friday we will see be group and that'll get us started okay and then guess what I'm sure the kids will tell us what we're doing after that okay so, that is very important formation again there is a I want I have another version of this that I think is just a little more reader-friendly that I will I'll send home this week and I'll also update and it'll be updated to this manual as well for further review technology review those the BYOD bring-your-own-device of the I'm glad I'm pleased if you have earbuds or headphones and you feel comfortable having your kids bring them please do bring them we do have your phones available but they are the rather large and cumbersome and I'm sure kids would prefer to have their they're really cool here and if you're comfortable then we will accommodate again if you need to check out a Chromebook please do so as soon as possible so we can make sure kids are ready on Monday and we don't have to do it on Monday would be awesome we can't we are open every day we've been aha hf3 only regarding 7th graders but if you have a son or a daughter who is a seventh-grader in your getting ready to bring them back as we are there are certain immunizations at that students will need in order to be permitted on campus so our school nurse has reached out to you if you don't know if you've ever been contacted by okay some really important information here I'm not going to go too much in detail Bible there is a difference between quarantine and isolation spada basically isolation means you're feeling symptoms and quarantine means you've been exposed and so those are those are the cliff notes version of what that is to take some time to read. as well as close contact this is if you remember back to a few slides ago this is what I was talking about when I stress the importance of assigned seating and teachers will manage assigned seating but in the event that on there was an exposure close contact for contact tracing would be done and close contact would apply so if you were within six feet of somebody for more than 15 minutes in most cases. kids are not going to be within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes but obviously we can't watch kids every single moment while they're on campus and there will be transitioning from. To. but the teachers are well informed about this procedure and will be will be maintaining a strict policy within classrooms are more detail about quarantine here great great information I encourage you please review that and we have reached the end so I'm going to head and stop sharing of that and okay know if I made a mistake and I'm just going to go through some of the questions that I have and then we will switch over to our Q&A and then we will conclude we had a question that from up here and if student is in B group what happened on Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday so I think I explained it if your Envy group you come on Thursday in on Monday and Tuesday you would be if you're if you're not in school whether it is your sick your quarantine your travelling we're implementing the hybrid schedule if you're not school students will always have access to the instruction and to the curriculum okay so I talked about Chromebooks there was a question about the yes you can bring materials I just want to reiterate that please try to keep them to a minimum and backpacks are okay so I'm just skimming through this great questions about our platforms when is going to change our platforms of access for parents access to the Aeries portal to check homework assignments testing schedules etc for class work information many teachers many teachers do you update or length are Aries webpage there to Dave update the students Aries page with a link to their individual teacher webpage so do not so if that doesn't make sense to you teachers will still have their teams on page available so every teacher's webpage their individual webpage webpage as their team team speech teams has their webpage in other words same channels of communication one of the great things that we've we've learned through this pandemic or adapted to in this pandemic is that we have multiple needs are modes of can Keysha and I know the kids are great about direct messaging and another of the teachers are great about responding so that will continue to be excuse me so that won't dollar continue to be for both students and parents whatever modes of communication you've had prior to specific materials for classes I've instructed rather than try to organize like a list that you met you still wore Patton Elementary School I know I certainly was used to that on this in many ways feels like the start of the school year and so perfectly appropriate question the individual teachers have been tasked with letting kids now listen to do it this week so hopefully some of you have already heard from your kids and if they'd haven't told you yet I have one of those students kids at home who does tell me a waste of the very last minute to tell me will be okay I'll be okay if you needed if you need to get it next week again there's nothing we can't fix my kids will will still continue and we will give kids material if they forgot it or don't don't have it meaning paper and pencil I talked about drop-off and pick-up a pickup would be in the front still so I don't know if I touch him on that same as a drop-off location and that won't change for the foreseeable future if a student comes to school or leaves in school and in a different way you know that. also still sanitizer disinfectant will have cleaning supplies okay is there a disadvantage to using Chromebooks as opposed to another second device in my opinion looks can't download apps in so that that it just sometimes is a disadvantage of the app that you where it where is if you have of you know what a regular laptop or a MacBook you can download apps so that's really the only main difference I would say generally process faster because apps to load and process up Wilson's be receiving a class schedule with the room numbers and odd numbers parent Aeries account so you can and students can look on their on their phones if they have them for the room numbers are there on the on the schedule page so now we won't be passing out on schedule even in pre-K X we don't pass out schedules anymore with the Aeries portal on the access to the Aeries portal students have all the information they need and we will have staff compact I think the timing is off on this question a little bit but in other words when they finish their periods 1 through 3 in the classroom are they expected to get home and get back online for.
