Watch the film I posted above "Japan: Memoirs of a Secret Empire."  You will be responsible viewing the first 55 minutes of the film.  You can either watch it all on Thursday, or watch half on Thursday and half of it on Friday.  The film will follow the life and times of one of Japan's most important historical figures, Tokugawa Ieyasu. The film will also focus on the impact of samurai society on 

Japanese culture and history.  You can either complete Illustrated Notes (10 pictures with descriptive captions) or complete Film Facts (45 total facts on the film).  Whatever option you choose needs to have a short paragraph summary. at the end. Title your assignment whatever option you choose "Illustrated Notes" or "Film Facts."

Get out a fresh sheet of paper and label it "Japanese Art." Click on the "Japanese Art Assignment" Link above to get an example of what your assignment should look like. It also has directions on it. Divide your paper in three columns horizontally. The first column, you will answer #3 on p. 208 in the shape of a Japanese fan. In the second column, write a haiku. Make sure you get the syllables and structure right. In the third column, translate an English word into a Japanese character. Write it big and bold to make it into calligraphy and write the English word below. Again, click on the link to get an example of how your paper should look.

All work for each week will be due on the Friday of that week. Submit work via Microsoft Teams (attach using paperclip icon).  If that does not work, send assignments to my email [email protected] .  Please try to send your assignments to me on Friday in one attachment/direct message/email if possible, not each seperately. I recommend downloading Adobe Scan (free App) or a similar scanning app if you have a smartphone to send the week's work in one attachment.

Friday 4/17: Take a page of notes on Ch. 8-2 power-point, titled "Art and Culture in Heian" (see power-point posted on my Edlio page).
