Activity for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (4/6, 4/7, 4/8).

What should we make of the Mongols?  There is no debate among historians that the Mongols had their brutal side.  But when the day of historical judgement comes and the Mongol positives and negatives are placed side by side on the balance scale, which way does the scale tip?
You will read a three page Background Essay on the Mongols and 10 documents that accompany the Background Essay (posted on my Edlio page). You will eventually write a three paragraph essay about the Mongols addressing this key question: How barbaric were the barbarians?
To help you write a fact-filled, cited, and researched essay, you will create a list of examples with citations from the 10 documents ( See Examples and Citations worksheet posted on my Edlio page).
The essay needs to be three paragraphs long and should be at least a page but no more than two pages The first paragraph of the essay should be about how the Mongols were barbaric (cite examples from specific documents)The second paragraph should be about how the Mongols were civilized (cite examples from specific documents).  The third paragraph you will provide your opinion to the guiding question of the entire essay: How barbaric were the "Barbarians"?
You will turn the essay in on Friday 4/10. It is not necessary to turn in the Example/Citations Page but it is helpful for keeping track of your research and make it easier to write your essay. The essay can be typed or hand-written.  Submit to me through my email [email protected] or direct message me the work via TEAMS (attach using paperclip icon).  You can always take photos of your work and send them through one of these ways. I recommend downloading Adobe Scan (free App) or a similar scanning app if you have a smartphone to send the week's work in one attachment. All work for each week is due on the Friday of that week.

The Mongols created the largest land empire in history. To understand the Mongols, we have to explore the life and times of Genghis Khan, who was first known as Temujin. Today we will continue this story by watching film clips #4, #5, and #6 on Genghis Khan. Each clip is about ten minutes. You will add to your "Genghis Khan Film Facts" sheet from Wednesday.  You again need to have 10 facts per film clip.  By the end of the sixth film clip, you should have 60 facts.  You will definitely be an expert on Genghis Khan by the end of the 6th film clip.  Please watch the film clips in order.
