PVIS/STEM/Maker/Space

"These tools, these people, these rooms, are dedicated to learning, helping, and sharing.
 To Making"

Welcome to the PVIS / STEM / Maker / Space

We have this space and these incredible making tools, thanks to the generous support of the Peninsula Education Foundation. If you have not already contributed to PEF please consider supporting them and through them this program.
The STEM/ Maker Club as well as afterschool programs such as the Underwater ROV Team are made possible by the PVIS Booster Club. If you have not already joined PVIS BC please consider doing so to support these programs.

The Maker Space is open during lunch most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
It is self-paced so you can learn what interests you at your pace.

Your fellow makers and the links above are resources for your projects. Ask for help and guidance but remember there are no shortcuts to learning a Maker Skill. Watch the tutorials, research how to do something, then ask for help when you get stuck.

Want to Make a Vinyl Decal
  • Click the "Learn Cricut Design Space" link and watch the tutorials
  • Make your first decal
  • Click the "Learn Inkscape" link and practice making your own decal designs

Want to Make something in the Glowforge Laser Cutter
  • Click the "Learn Glowforge" link to learn how to upload and capture
  • Click the "Glowforge" link (or go to the Glowforge page) and review the Policies and Procedures
  • Click the "Learn Inkscape" link and practice making your own designs

Want to 3D Print an Object (We only print objects that you make)
  • You will need to learn a CAD program such as Tinkercad (basic level) or Onshape (cloud-based) or Fusion 360 (best interface and most capabilities)
  • Your 3D object will need to be prepared by a Maker that knows how to use the slicer software. Be patient and know 3D printing is much slower than laser cutting and vinyl cutting.

"If you get stuck, consider starting over, most things get easier the more you do it."
