Sea Kings Families,
This week we would like to share a quick note from our Sage Counselor, Mrs. Samaha. We will now alternate my bi-weekly principal's updates with our Mental Health Minute message from our counseling support staff. We hope you find these quick messages helpful and will also be sure to include school and District news and announcements links.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything,
Micah Farrell
Principal, PVIS

While returning to campus this year offers excitement for many, content to be surrounded by peers. Many students may also have a hard time transitioning back to school, feeling overwhelmed, scared, isolated, and more disconnected than ever from teachers, staff, and peers. Our counseling team is focused on helping all of our PVIS students build relationships and a sense of belonging with other students and adults on campus. Encourage your students to get involved by joining a club or extra-curricular activity, talking with teachers, or making a new friend in class, to help promote relational growth and a sense of connectivity at school!
Our counseling staff is here to support your student(s), we are happy to help with finding something on campus that may be of interest and helping to make connections.
Why community connections are good for children
Children who are connected to extended family and family friends, school, and people in their neighborhood and community have:
- a sense of belonging to a place and community
- opportunities to learn about getting along with others
- people to go to when they need help
- a network they can use to learn about different jobs, skills, and so on.
Strong social connections can also boost your child’s confidence and lead to new friendships.
Different community connections have different benefits for children.

Based on the National Standards from the
American School Counseling Association, the PVPUSD Counseling Departments believe in the whole-child counseling approach through the support of students' mindsets and behaviors.
Utilizing the
PVPUSD Essential Counseling Standards, counselors work with students in the areas of social-emotional health, academics, and college readiness. Through family, school, and community partnerships,
school counselors are committed to creating a space where students feel connected and thrive. Our goal is to help develop productive citizens who are resilient, self-advocating, life-long learners.
