Principal's Update 9-13-24

f

Sea Kings Families,

Back to School Night was a success! Thank you to our teachers, staff, and parent/student volunteers for helping to make the evening special. As the principal, I always look forward to this community event as it allows us to build and strengthen relationships, understand expectations, and stay informed. Moreover, it shows students that families and teachers are equally invested in their success.

We are grateful to be partners in making this school year positive and productive!

Be Well-

Micah J. Farrell, Principal

PVIS is excited to offer Introduction to AVID to 6th graders taking the elective wheel. AVID was founded by Mary Catherine Swanson in 1980 at Clairemont High School in San Diego, US. AVID now serves over 2 million students in more than 7,500 schools in 47 US states and 16 countries. PVPUSD first implemented AVID at Peninsula High School in 2001, then at Palos Verdes High School in 2003 and now, is beginning the AVID implementation phase at all three middle schools.

The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is an investment in teacher professional development that centers on strategies that promote rigorous instruction, increase student engagement, and foster connections. All of this leads to greater academic confidence and student agency.

PVIS is proud to say that 6 teachers were trained in AVID strategies this past summer.

Are you interested in learning more about AVID? Great! We will regularly share information about the AVID program in the Principal’s Update.
