Principal's Update 4/14/24

PVIS Families,

We hope the first week back from spring break treated you kindly. The end of the school year is quickly approaching.

I wanted to take a moment to recommend 2 books for your summer reading: Middle School Matters and/or Middle School Super Powers by Phyllis Fagell. Fagell discusses the middle school years as a formative time marked by amplified emotions, hormonal change, and impulsivity. More advanced social skills are acquired and evolved through experiences that allow for personal, social, and academic growth. Perhaps more importantly, she states that social conflict is normal and "imperative". Working through conflict teaches responsibility and choosing healthy relationships.

Have a great week!
Micah J. Farrell, Principal

We are excited about the 7th-grade trip to Camp Pali on Wednesday, 4/17.

Here are a few details to keep in mind:

  1. Bus assignments will be made based on alphabetical order. The bus list will be posted in the office, in the 7th-grade pod, and in rooms 610, 904 & 905 on Monday, 4/15.
  2. Please mark all luggage/ sleeping bags with the student’s first and last names. (Every year a few are left unclaimed.)
  3. Students should arrive at PVIS on Wednesday, 4/17 no later than 8:00 AM. The bus will depart at 8:45 AM. Please meet in the lower lot.
  4. Chaperones will announce the cabin assignments and activity groups on the bus.
  5. Plan for cold weather! Check the forecast. It looks sunny but cold.
  6. PVIS will send an update through Parent Square when the buses arrive at Camp Pali on Wednesday.
  7. We will also send a notification when the buses leave to come home on Friday and when they are close to campus.  Parents can plan for the buses to return to PVIS around 2:00. You will find them in the lower lot.

It is going to be a great trip!

CAASPP Testing Schedule

CAASPP Testing begins at the end of the month. Please help our school by talking with your students about the importance of the test. The student's performance is often reviewed by staff at the secondary levels as part of their overall progress. Beyond that, it is one indicator of the overall achievement of our students and school. For prospective students, our CAASPP scores are often considered and enrollment is funding.

Thank you for your support!
