Parent & Teacher Conferences
January 18 and 19th
If you would like to meet with your student's teacher/s please email them directly to schedule. If you decide to meet with your student's teacher I think it's important to prepare mentally for a tough conversation. Here are some suggestions and notes:
-
A safe meeting place is imperative; as parents, we play a role in maintaining that. During difficult conversations, it is perfectly normal to feel defensive. It is OK to acknowledge your defensiveness, it does not mean you are in agreement. After all, it is your child, and you would do anything for him or her. At the same time, teachers care deeply for their students and have invested countless hours into their craft; their defensiveness is normal too.
-
Avoid blame. Blame is a judgment and prevents the group from moving forward toward a solution. If not turning in homework has contributed to your student's lower grade he or she is not the issue, why they are not turning in homework is.
-
Listen to hear, be curious about the other side, and know that there is always another perspective to consider.
-
"Yes, and" statements can be effective. Using them can allow the other side to feel validation, while still leaving room for yours'.

Parents, please remember that if your student is out ill they should be prepared to communicate, they can do it in person or DM through Teams with their teachers upon return about a makeup plan for missed assignments/tests.
Students are not expected to take a test the day they return from illness or injury and should be allowed as many days as the student was absent to make up the work/tests. Conversely, teachers have up to 150 students and cannot always remember who was out ill and when.
Second Trimester Progress Reports Are Now Viewable Through Your Aeries Parent Portal.
