AVID students remain with their AVID teacher throughout high school. The program emphasizes organization, collaborative learning, leadership skills, writing skills, and provides students with bi-weekly tutorials led by skilled tutors to help students succeed in their academic classes.
As the demand to join AVID is high, 8th graders are required to apply to the AVID program. Please do not apply until both the student and parent has attended one of the AVID Parent Night presentations. You may only apply to one high school's AVID program. Applications will be posted on each high school’s AVID webpage (see links below) beginning on February 4 and are due on February 24. If interested in applying to AVID, please enter your info using the link below.
The AVID program will be hosting the following informational sessions:
- Introduction to the AVID program at the middle schools (Thursday, January 27th)
- AVID Coordinators from both high schools will give an overview of AVID to interested 8th graders.
- This will take place during the school day at each middle school.
- Students interested in attending should enter their contact info using the link below so we know to include them in the meeting.
- AVID Family Meetings at the high schools
- Student must attend with a parent in order to apply to AVID.
- AVID Coordinators will explain the AVID program to students and their parents. Current AVID seniors who have been in the program for 4 years will be present to share their experiences and insights into AVID.
- If current COVID guidelines allow, these meetings will be held in person at the locations shown below. If DPH guidelines do not allow for in-person gatherings, the family meetings will be held virtually.
- Please use link below to receive important updates about the AVID Family Meetings and a link to the meetings if they will be virtual.
- There are two scheduled Family Meetings and both meetings are identical. Please attend whichever date is better for your schedule regardless of which high school you will be attending next year.
- February 3rd (Thursday), 6:00 PM @ Peninsula High School PAC
- February 8th (Tuesday), 6:00 PM @ Palos Verdes High School MPR
