Principal's Update | December 5, 2021

h
Sea Kings Families,

Welcome back to school; I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break. Right around the corner, we will be on winter recess (PVPUSD Parent Calendar).

By now, students have established a routine in their classes, but they have also done so at home. Research shows that young people, especially during middle school years when changes are occurring, who have routines feel more control over their lives. Middle school students that feel they have a say or control over their lives can also improve their relationships at home. Another consideration is that an established routine for young people can also help them when change comes their way to be resilient, feeling confident in the stability of their overall environment. Naturally, routine also has many health benefits for young people, like consistent sleep, eating healthy, and exercise. Don't be discouraged if your student struggles with routine; consistency is key and is a starting point. Adults at home can help establish a routine with clear expectations like screen time, chores (don't underestimate the power of chores), meal times, and bed/wake-up times.

If you fall short on all of this, that is OK too. Middle school is all about preparing students (and families:) for high school and beyond. We will get there- We Got This!

If you have concerns or questions about your student's academic program or need support with organization and time management, contact your School Counselor.
