Let's continue to focus on one another and more importantly being kind and respectful as we move forward. There is nothing we can't resolve, if we commit to working together with mutual respect and focus on our common goal: our students.
Here We Go!
Micah J. Farrell
Principal of PVIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a research-based, school-wide systems approach to improve school climate and create safer and more effective schools. ™ PBIS is designed to teach and reinforce positive behaviors among students. Palos Verdes Intermediate School is in its fourth year of implementing PBIS.
We continue to be excited about the efforts being made to make PVIS a safe, positive, and respectful community that values integrity, academic success, and social and emotional well-being.
At the start of the school year, students participate in school-wide lessons that focus on being their BEST. PVIS teachers use these lessons to introduce our school-wide behavior matrix and BEST expectations:
Be Safe
Encourage Kindness
Show Integrity
Take Action
Our PBIS Team and the new SPARK Club (a function of PBIS) meet regularly to discuss ways to reinforce positive behaviors among students during remote learning. In addition, PVIS celebrates students who give their BEST through the new Engagement Excellence drawing and SPARK Award!
- The Engagement Excellence drawing recognizes students who are continuously engaged in class. Students engaged every day for the entire month have their names entered into a virtual hat. Five lucky students win a gift card.
- The SPARK Award recognizes students who spark in a class by demonstrating good character and citizenship. Every month, five teachers each select one student to receive the SPARK award. These five students are celebrated with a yard sign, certificate, and cake.
Parents, we couldn't do this work without your active participation and support.
THANK YOU for helping us encourage our students to be their BEST every day!

Despite the many challenges we faced during our virtual learning year, we also made great strides in incorporating technology into daily instruction. Students adapted and learned how to use and manage learning platforms. As a result, we have an opportunity to help students continue to learn and apply the skill sets of the 21st century. Our goal will be to use classroom sets of Chromebooks for students and allow students to bring their own device (BYOD) for classroom learning. Teachers will instruct students when to BYOD; Chromebooks will always be available if students do not have/wish to BYOD.
Please Review PVPUSD BYOD Policy

CELL PHONE POLICY
Cell Phone Policy: We will return to our previous cell phone policy, which states that all cell phones should be silenced and out of sight during school hours unless otherwise directed by teachers for educational purposes only.

Academic and PE lockers are available and are planned for full student use this school year.
Please remember that all students must bring their own lock or purchase one from the main office.
We will also once again be ready to help our students if they are having trouble with opening their locks :)
