April 13th Special Board of Education Meeting

Dear PVPUSD School Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that a member of our Board of Education, Jeffrey Frankel, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 3rd. Jeff was an amazing community leader, who happily volunteered so much of his time and energy for the betterment of our school district. Jeff was a loving parent of a PVPUSD student and he was a shining example of what civic leadership is all about.

Board President Matthew Brach added, "Jeff was a passionate and untiring advocate for students, particularly for those students with special needs. He brought with him a vision and a plan to make our community and district better, we will miss his insight and caring, as well as his friendship. Our thoughts are with his family and their unthinkable loss."

Respectfully,
Matthew Brach, Board President
Megan Crawford, Board Vice President
Linda Reid, Board Clerk
Richard Phillips, Board Member
Alexander Cherniss, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools

Fellow board members shared:
I am deeply saddened at the passing of my board colleague, Jeff Frankel. Jeff was very passionate about helping all students, and contributed countless volunteer hours as a parent, Measure M committee member, and most recently a PV Board of Education member. He and I had many great conversations together, including conversations on sustainability in the district, working with our teachers, and topics in the Technology Advisory Committee. I am sending thoughts and prayers to Jillian and his family, and will miss him dearly.

I am devastated at the loss of my colleague and I am so sad for Jillian. Jeff was motivated to serve by nothing but helping children, using his knowledge of special needs students and the district's budget. He always had a kind word for staff and thanked everyone, and I valued our frequent conversations about a wide range of topics over his years as a volunteer committee member and our crazy ride together on the pandemic campaign trail. He made me a better board member. I will miss him a great deal.
-Linda Reid

I’m very saddened by the sudden passing of my esteemed Board colleague Jeff Frankel. My heart goes out to his daughter, Jillian, and the other members of his family. Jeff was a wonderful man, father and community volunteer. I had the privilege of working with Jeff on the Budget Advisory Committee, as well as the Board. He always provided a thoughtful perspective and taught me a lot about the Special Ed community and families. He cared deeply about all the kids in the District and made a real impact, often in Closed Session, during his tragically short tenure on the Board. I will miss him.
