Sea Kings Families,
The current Safer At Home order may have closed down our school physically, but PVIS is still very much open, connected, and we are all learning more and more each day. My sincere hope is that our students are settling into the schedule that was proposed last week, and in turn parents are feeling the benefits of routine. It is important to remember that under the current circumstances, the ideal amount of educational content should be 1/2 to 1/3 of the amount it was while in traditional school. As a staff we are trying to create a system in which the beginning of each week is used to assign work, allowing students to work independently until midweek when video chat and/or questions can be answered by teachers. Of course Fridays are still designated for teacher 'office hours', so please utilize them if need be.
Students are expected to turn in work assigned, teachers will post grades/percentages on an ongoing basis. Student completion and submission of work is important to the educational process, but it is also important for our staff to note which students are 'attending school'.
We appreciate your partnership. You have worked tirelessly to be a parent, provider, counselor and now part-time educator! Well done! I know for a lot of you this has been an extremely difficult time, but you are doing a great job. Again, we do not know what our families are going through during these challenging times, and thus it may be difficult to complete classwork or attend video sessions. I want to encourage any families that are finding it difficult to manage the education of your student due to circumstances unforeseen by our school closure, please contact us for assistance or simply to check in.
The last topic I want to discuss today is compassion, Please be compassionate toward each other, your teachers, your friends and your family members. From shared experiences like this, wisdom and kindness can often be the positive by-product. All of us have faced tremendous challenges over the last month and we should help and aid others who feel overwhelmed. Assist a friend, reach out to another who may have gone silent, send a kind word to a person who may be struggling with current events ... now is the time for all of us to show compassion for people in our community who need our help. Lastly, if you need support or assistance, please contact your guidance counselor, email your favorite teacher, or call/email either myself or Mrs.Tsosie. All of us are dedicated to help you during these difficult times.
At the end of the day, we care about all of our students and families and want to know that you are safe, healthy, and HAPPY. We will get through these times together, I look forward to the day when all of this is a distant memory.
I would like to offer a casual Zoom meeting next Wednesday, April 22nd for anyone that wants to join asks questions or simply share and connect with others. If you are interested send me an email and I will send you an invite.
Contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to connect.
