School Closure Notice

Dear PVPUSD Families and School Community,

The public's health and safety is paramount to Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) and all of our community and educational partners.  After long and careful deliberation, we have decided to close schools to students Friday March 13, 2020 through Friday, April 3, 2020.  Schools will reopen on April 6, 2020.

Our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly over the past weeks to create educational experiences that all students will be able to access while schools are closed. Our intent is for resources to be accessible for all students.  Our teachers have been proactively working with students and testing communication systems to be sure that students have access to their work.  You will receive a separate communication from your child’s school on how to access these materials, which will be through email and the school website.

While this will not replace daily classroom instruction, our goal is to offer opportunities for students to access their curriculum, practice skills, and have some structure to their day during the closure.

Schools will be open for students and staff Friday, March 13, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  During this time, students who do not have a device at home, may sign-out a Chromebook at the main office for use during this closure and other students may stop in briefly to pick up any items (i.e., textbooks, workbooks, etc.) that they may have left behind. We understand that school closure affects all families, and we are committed to addressing the needs of all our learners.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time.  Students should stay home and minimize social contact as much as possible to keep family members safe. In particular, we ask parents and students to be mindful of the guidance to avoid activities involving large gatherings.

Thank you for your understanding and collaboration as we make decisions for the health and safety of our students. Together we will successfully navigate these uncertain times.

Respectfully,

Alex Cherniss, Ed.D.
