Happy Friday Sea Kings Families,
Another great week in the books at PVIS. A few highlights to share..
On January 14th, our 8th grade students attended the Museum of Tolerance for their annual field trip. The students were engaged, respectful, and came away with a deeper understanding of the impact and history of the Holocaust.

Also, on January 14th our leadership class and Associated Student Body (ASB) were invited to the Rolling Hills Estates City Council meeting as special guests in recognition of their first place finish in the Holiday Parade, 2019! The students did a great job of leading the pledge at the council meeting and fielding questions from the board. It is experiences like these for students involved in leadership that are truly invaluable, as they prepare for high school, college, and ultimately career.

January 15th, our Cross-Country team was honored during the Palos Verdes Estates City Council meeting for their outstanding season. It was a packed house on the evening with many
parents, coaches, city officials, and press in attendance. Perhaps most impressive is that all of the student-athletes are equally excelling in the classroom too!

8th Grade Parents..Next week, (1/28) many students will be given the opportunity to learn more about our high school AVID programs. Interested students will need to apply and be interviewed for acceptance into the program. If you are not familiar with AVID, I encourage you to consider. The program has many benefits, but ultimately it can help students learn skills and strategies for success in high school and beyond.

Yellow Ribbon Week January 27-31
PVIS participates in Yellow Ribbon Week. This week (and
always), we encourage kindness, promote tolerance, and
discourage bullying. Highlights for the week include—
A campus-wide Coat Drive led by our National Junior Honors Society: Students and
families can donate coats that will go to San Pedro Harbor Interfaith to serve local
families in need.
Kindness Cards: Every day during lunchtime, a table will be setup where students can
write “thank you” notes to teachers, staff, family, and friends.
Door Decorating Contest

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is an approach that promotes walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement, tools, safety education, and incentives to encourage walking and bicycling to school. In October (2019), an assessment was conducted at PVIS with the input and assistance from our parent community. As a next step, a survey is provided below for students and parents to answer regarding modes of transportation and routes to school.
