Dance (Period 2)

Dance check 30 seconds 4/10

Since we are out of school longer than anticipated, I am changing up the choreo assignment to adapt to learning at home.  I will need to see individual videos of your choreography, submitting only 1 group member does not allow me to give credit to the whole group.  If you need to switch up your dances and adapt that is perfectly acceptable at this point too.  I will probably be meeting either through Teams or Zoom on Wed. & Thurs. this week to discuss further. If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will respond within 24 hours if not sooner.  Meanwhile, I am looking forward to seeing all of your creative dances!  Take care, and stay healthy.

Fitness Logs 4/6-4/10

Hi Dancers and PE students,

I hope you are healthy and doing well.  I miss seeing all of you!  By now you should have completed your first fitness log covering 2 weeks and submitted it to me through my email.  You can do this by either taking a pic of your log or creating a word doc or pdf using a free scan app on your phone.  Also, please include your name and class period in the subject line of the email.  I received a pic of a fitness log with no name and the email is not recognizable by name eithe, so I do not know who to give points to in my grade book.  Your next log submission is due on 4/10.  Keep up the good work (:

The link of the video is on the previous post.  This is how to complete research, watch a total of 4 videos.  You can use the one I did as long as you write your own 4 sentences on how it will influence your dance.

Instructions for PE & Dance during School Closure

Good Morning Parents & Students of Palmer Dance & PE,

I am so glad we had the opportunity to demonstrate how to access our Fitness Logs while we are away for the moment.  Remember there are 3 files to print and reference to get through these next few weeks.

1. Healthy Fitness Zones

2. Strands of Fitness

3. Fitness Log

All  fitness log assignments will be due on the day you return.  I will then put your points into AERIES.  Only email me if you have any questions or concerns or are enrolled in dance and have a dance assignment to submit.

Here is the general assignment for PE & Dance for Monday, March 16 through March 27.  You will have 10 days of workouts filled out on your Fitness Log sheet worth 100 points.  If school is out a longer period of time, I will update you on the next activities that will be assigned.

The schedule is as follows as previously discussed:

Mon., Wed., and Fri. (push-ups, Sit-ups, Cardio) must be 45 minutes

Tues. & Thurs. (Free choice of activity) Must be 45 minutes

Steps

  1. Refer to your Healthy Fitness Zone handout.  Remember one is titled FEMALE the other is titled, MALE.  Find your age on the sheet.  Highlight your age and move along the grid to find the recommended Curl-up and Push-up for your age group.  Example:  For a female, if you are 14 years old, the Curl-up recommendation is between 18-32.  The recommended Push-up is between 7-15.  You may choose to complete any amount between the recommended numbers.  However, remember you must complete 3 sets.  This means that if you choose to do 18 Curl-ups you will be completing 18 x 3 for a total of 54.  You may rest between each set before you start the next set.  This will be the same for Push-ups, 3 sets of push-ups at the recommended number as well.
  2. Next, choose a cardiovascular activity to complete.  Examples include walking, hiking, jump rope, cycling, swimming, jogging, kickboxing, surfing, dancing etc. Youtube also has some great workouts posted if you are at home.
  3. Print out your Fitness Log.  Remember as we discussed on Thursday, March 12 you are required to complete 45 minutes of physical activity for each day missed.  That being said, every day you complete your Fitness Log, the time should read 45 minutes.
  4. The Strands of Fitness:  This sheet is a guide to help you identify what components in the 5 strands of fitness you participated in.  Was it Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, or Flexibility?  The only strand we are not focusing on in our assignments is Body Composition.  There are definitions for each to help guide you and there is a list of Cardiovascular Activities on pages 3-5 in this handout.

Here is an example of how to fill out your Fitness Log on the sheet posted on Edlio:

Date:  3/16/20

Activity:  Curl-ups 18 x 3 sets, Push-ups 7 x 3 sets, jog 10 min, yoga 25 min

SOF:  Muscular strength, Flexibility, and Cardiovascular Endurance

Time:  45 minutes

Dance classes also have 3 additional assignments that are posted on Edlio.  They are as follow:

  1. Dance contract due Wed., March 18.  Please include how your group will communicate as one of your bullet points.  Only 1 contract per group needs to be emailed to [email protected]
  2. 8 counts of 8 of your dance choreography due Friday, March 20.  Email me a video.
  3. Choreography research due Friday, March 27.  This is an individual not group assignment.  Watch 4 short dances and follow the steps on the handout on edlio using the choreography vocabulary.  Email to me by due date.

Dance students, also remember that you can use your free choice time for your fitness log to work on your 8 counts of 8 that is due.

Please know that I will be available via email any week day between 8 am and  3pm for the next weeks.  If I don't get back to you, please be patient.  I will check my emails throughout the day.

Stay healthy and safe,

Ms. Palmer

Dance Contract Due Wednesday, March 18

Complete 1 dance contract per group.  It should include members of your group and 4 sentences or bullet points of how you agree to work together.  This might include how and how often you are going to communicate while we are away from school.  Missing signatures are acceptable, but I do need all group members listed.  Email completed contracts to [email protected]
