Activity for Wednesday 3/25/2020
The Mongols created the largest land empire in history. To understand the Mongols, we have to explore the life and times of Genghis Khan, who was first known as Temujin. Today you will watch three film clips on Genghis Khan. Each clip is about ten minutes. Get out a sheet of paper titled "Genghis Khan Film Facts." ( For each film clip, you need to record 10 facts. By the end of the three film clips you should have 30 facts.) Please watch the film clips in order. The clips are numbered, but here is the order: Clip # 1:Genghis Khan - Temüjin the Child - Extra History , Clip #2:Genghis Khan - The Rivalry of Blood Brothers - Extra History , Clip #3:Genghis Khan - The Debut of Temüjin Khan - Extra History .
Activity for Tuesday March 24th Instructions.
Read p. 180-182 in the textbook on "The Mongol Empire" (known in China s the Yuan Dynasty). Next, click on the power-point "The Mongols and the Yuan Dynasty." Go through the entire power-point and take a page of notes on it. Title the assignment "The Mongols and the Yuan Dynasty."
The True Story of Mulan Reading
Optional extra credit assignment and reading to be done on the back of the required 7-3 Work-sheet. List 5 similarities between the Mulan in the reading and the Mulan in the Disney film.
7-3 work-sheet (Activity for 3/23/2020)
Read Ch. 7-3 in the textbook "Confucianism and China's Government" (p. 176-179). Print up the attached assignment and fill in the blanks based on the textbook reading.
Optional Extra Credit Activity: Read the "The True Story of Mulan" reading that I put on my Edlio page. If you have seen the Disney film, list 5 similarities on the back of the 7-3 work-sheet between the Mulan in the reading and the Mulan in the film.
Tang and Song Achievements
Your assignment for Friday 3/20/20 was to take a page of notes on Ch. 7-2. I included a power-point of the most important facts you should have written down. Go over your notes and make sure you have the information I put in the power-point. Remember, you need to complete a full page of notes.

Monday 3/16 and Tuesday 3/17: One Child Policy Three Paragraph Essay.

Wednesday 3/18: Complete Ch. 7-1 Questions on p. 169 in the textbook #1-4 all. Restate the question in all responses. Also complete the Ch. 7-1 Vocabulary terms on the same sheet ( "T chart"). There are three vocab. terms (Period of Disunion, Grand Canal, Empress Wu).
Thursday 3/19: Watch the Engineering an Empire film on Edlio. Take either Illustrated Notes ( 10 drawings with detailed, descriptive captions, with a one paragraph summary) or 40 film facts with a one paragraph summary.
Friday 3/20: Read Ch. 7-2 "Tang and Song Achievements" / Take a page of notes on the reading.
Monday and Tuesday 3/16, 3/17: Activity/Assignment Directions
We learned about the One-Child Policy in China last week. Review the background essay and the four documents that I posted on my Edlio page ( C, D, E, and F). Write a three paragraph essay on the One-Child Policy. In the first paragraph, list reasons (citing the documents) why the policy was beneficial. In the second paragraph, list reasons (citing the documents) why the policy was not beneficial. In the third paragraph, state your personal opinion on the policy and describe why you think it was a good or bad idea. You can turn this in upon your return to school in April. Do not email me the essay. The essay can be typed or hand-written.
