HOW TO ANSWER FOCUS QUESTIONS.....
Students, you can find the Focus Questions on Study Sync under the READ tab. They are at the very top of the page. Read the question, then look in the text for the answer. Once you find textual evidence, highlight that sentence in green and type the answer into that note. Then save the note. See my example. As always, email me questions...

Paragraph Writing Instruction

Dear Students,
Many of you are asking for a refresher of our paragraph format. I attached the PowerPoint that Ms. Schofield & I taught at the beginning of the year.

Basically every paragraph has certain elements & you can repeat the pattern even though the prompts are different. This can work for Study Sync paragraphs AND the 8th-grade research paper.

Each sentence has a job.

TS- topic sentence (respond to the prompt “In Rikki Tikki Tavi.....”)

TLQ- transition / lead in to quote (At the beginning of the story, Rikki is curious”)

CD- concrete detail (the quote)

CM#1-commentary/ analysis (explain the meaning of quote in your own words)

CM#2- commentary/ analysis (“so what? Explain how this quote proves your topic sentence claim)

TLQ- transition / lead in to quote (Later, Rikki becomes courageous because...)

CD concrete detail (the quote)

CM#1 -commentary/ analysis (explain the meaning of quote in your own words)

CM#2- commentary/ analysis (“so what? Explain how this quote proves your topic sentence claim)

CS- concluding sentence

LA 8- Outside Reading Book

I would still like for students to choose an "outside" reading book, but it does not need to be historical fiction. Due to these unusual circumstances, I don't want anyone to stress about finding a specific book. You may choose any book that you have around the house- any genre, any amount of pages. This is a great opportunity for you to read for FUN ! :)

I've added the link to the PVIS Library's webpage where is has directions at the bottom of the page for how to access the public library's ebooks. You do not need a personal library card. Happy reading!!

You can copy/paste your outline into the "FINAL Research Paper Assignment" on TEAMS. Then, DELETE all of the extra outline things. Remember, you may follow the format by simply typing over the outline (for example: type your CM sentences where it says "CMs" on the outline).

Final Paper due on TEAMS by Friday, March 20.

LA 8 Lesson Plans March 16-27

Parents,
Please use this document for my lesson plans over the next two weeks. I am available via email for any questions & I will be checking student progress on Study Sync & Microsoft TEAMS often.

I am moving forward with our research paper even though I know it will be a challenge. Please just encourage students to do their best, given the circumstances. Obviously this will be harder for them to do without being in the classroom, but they should already have their outlines completed and turned in on TEAMS. Students should not stress about the grade on this research paper, but instead, focus on the learning experience. :)

My Study Sync curriculum is working again! That is a HUGE relief.
