Assignment

Language Arts will move to a Recorded Lesson, Live Zoom Class, Teams, and Padlet. Be aware of all these pathways! Spread the word because school is NOT out - you need to do your part and stay in the loop. Be a positive role model to your classmates, and inform them of what they should be doing - this isn't summer vacay....everyone still needs to do work!

If you DID NOT read chapters 1-4 before break, read them over break because that is what we'll start off with once we return.

iReady -
YES, YOU CAN MAKE UP LAST WEEK'S 40 MIN
If you log over 80 minutes THIS WEEK, I will go back and update Aeries. The extended "make up session" is open until Sunday.

I've decided to cancel the 3rd trimester book report. Of course reading is important! It builds your vocabulary, helps you visualize punctuation and the use of dialogue between characters, and most importantly, continues to put you on a pathway to becoming a better writer. I hope you continue to read something- anything!!- but understand if you have a lot going on. From this point out, your "reading" is your LA assignments/iReady. (Let's face it... there is enough to read in iReady!)

The "Discussion Prompts" are in your Frederick Douglass Packet. All the "prompts" are at the start of each new section under the section YOUR STUDYSYNC TV.

When responding, you should write in your composition book. If you do not have your composition book home, use white-lined paper.

Discussion Prompts are reflections. Although spelling and sentence structure is not graded, you should challenge yourself to write a minimum of 4-6 sentences and use text evidence to continue to work on your paragraph writing.

St. Patrick's Day Extra Credit - DROPKICK MURPHYS - SONG OF THE DAY

Listen and annotate the DM song "Worker's Song" and receive 5 points of extra credit. Print out the lyrics and annotate the following:
1 IDIOM
1 HYPERBOLE
1 METAPHOR
1 ALLITERATION

Send me annotations through email OR teams if you know how.
Have a SUPER St. Patty's Day.

Yeah, this one's for the workers who toil night and day
By hand and by brain to earn your pay

Who for centuries long past for no more than your bread
Have bled for your countries and counted your dead

In the factories and mills, in the shipyards and mines
We've often been told to keep up with the times
For our skills are not needed, they've streamlined the job
And with sliderule and stopwatch our pride they have robbed

We're the first ones to starve, we're the first ones to die
The first ones in line for that pie-in-the-sky
And we're always the last when the cream is shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about

And when the sky darkens and the prospect is war
Who's given a gun and then pushed to the fore
And expected to die for the land of our birth
Though we've never owned one lousy handful of earth

And all of these things the worker has done
From tilling the fields to carrying the gun
We've been yoked to the plough since time first began
And always expected to carry the can
