Social Studies 8 (click here) (Period 2-6) Assignments

The last day of instruction for PVIS will be Friday, June 5th, 2020.  Normally we would have our final exam on Tuesday, June 2nd and then watch a movie the last 3 days of the week.  However, in lieu of a final exam, I am assigning this - Reading and Questions on the Battle of Little Big Horn will be the last assignment that I will be grading and posting on Aeries for the rest of the year.  Please complete and submit to me via Chat (on teams) or email.  Due Friday, June 5th at 3:00 PM.  

This will count as a quiz grade, not an exam, but I will be looking at the quality of your responses to the questions and grade accordingly.

Students, as you probably already know, we will not be returning to PVIS this year.  I am sorry that your 8th grade year and out time together in the classroom was cut short.

The last day of instruction will be June 5th.  Please continue to do the work I assign and turn in to me via Chat (Teams) or email.  Check Aeries often and turn in any work that you have not completed.  Yearbooks should arrive at the beginning of June and the administration will develop a process for you to safely pick up your yearbook, stay tuned for more information on yearbook distribution.

Please read pages 553 to 558 and answer questions (see attached).  This assignment is due Tuesday, May 12th by 3:00 PM.  Return to me via Chat (Teams) or email.

Assignment for Monday and Tuesday, April 20th and 21st.  Classwork/Homework - Page 503 (see attached) and Lecture Notes (see attached)

Assignments for Wednesday and Thursday, April 15th, and April 16th -  Worksheet - Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation (see attached). I have attached some lecture notes as well.  The worksheet can be difficult but look at the notes and your textbook and read the document carefully before answering the questions.  Here is a clue, Did the Emancipation Proclamation free slaves in the border states loyal to the union?  Think about it. We will go over the worksheet next week. 

Assignments for Monday and Tuesday, April 13th and 14th - First of all, how are you all doing?  I am a classroom teacher and I miss seeing you all in room 812 together, learning, talking, and interacting.  I know that online learning is nothing compared to being in the classroom with a teacher. having said that, please just do the best you can with the work I assign.  Some of you are probably wondering how you are going to turn in your completed work if we never get back to school this year? If that is indeed the case, I will have you submit your completed work to me via email or Teams, for now, just continue to keep all completed work in a folder. 

Assignments -  Classwork/Homework, Page 496 (see attached) and Reading and Questions, Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation.  Intro to War and Emancipation Proclamation (see attached)  Please reach out with any questions or concerns.  I have only heard from a few of you.  Let me know how you are doing!

Good Morning!  Please read entire post.  Continue to keep all completed work in a folder at home, do not submit any work to me unless I direct you to do so.  Also, no Zoom or Team meetings this week, I will let you know in advance when we will have a Zoom or Team meeting and we will try to follow the PVIS Online Instruction Schedule (see attached). Also, you can chat with me on Teams, please be respectful of all of your peers when posting on Teams as school rules still apply!  You can always email at any time as well.  At the end of each week, I will post an Assignment List (see attached), this is the work that you should have completed to date, if you see something on there that you need to make up, make it up.  Here is the assignment for today and tomorrow - Classwork/Homework - Page 487 (see attached).  Please print out and put completed copy in your notebook. Please let me know in you have any questions or concerns.  I am also interested in any feedback you may have in regards to your Online Instruction experience overall, how is it going, what works, what doesn't work, how is Zoom or Teams, are they helpful, etc......

131 out of 166 students took the quiz - Period 2 - 22 out of 34, Period 3 - 29 out of 34, Period 4 - 25 out of 34, Period 5 - 29 out of 33, Period 6 - 26 out of 31.  First quiz was submitted 

at 9:19 AM Tuesday, last quiz submitted at 3:03 AM Wednesday.  Thanks to all who turned it in.  Most turned it in on Word, the preferred method,  some printed it out, filled it in, and took a picture and emailed to me, a few sent a Google Doc which I have trouble accessing on my home computer. 

I miss you guys, maybe I'll check in on Zoom after Spring Break!   I hope you all are doing well, and I hope we are back in the classroom sooner than later.  

Today, you have time to work on your map (if not finished) and review the answers to the quiz (see attached)

CIVIL WAR MAP - .   See directions, follow them closely, blank map, and Civil War Map, CLICK ON PICTURE OF CW MAP!(all attached).  Take your time, after all you have plenty of time, right?  Traditionally, students produce some amazing maps, I wish I could show you examples but they are locked up in my classroom and campus is closed. 

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SIX COLORS, ANY COLORS YOU WANT.  FOLLOW THE MAP THAT I HAVE ATTACHED HERE. IF YOU USE THE MAP IN THE BOOK, YOU WILL NOT COMPLETE YOUR MAP CORRECTLY.

Also, pay attention to the Border States!  What is a Border State?  How did West Virginia become a border state?  Why didn't Lincoln want to upset the border states? 

Here is a good way to remember them - Why did Mary Miss Ken (West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky)

Blue Study Guide - Intro to Slavery and The U.S. Civil War (see attached). This was passed out on Thursday, march 12th. Blue Study Guide (Pre Civil War Study Guide) See attached  Exam will be open note!

Compromise of 1850 and The Kansas-Nebraska Act (1854) - This was assigned today, Thursday, March 12th. Due Friday, March 13th.  Please answer the questions directly on the worksheet (see attached if needed).

Green Study Sheet Due Tuesday, March 10th.  Green Study Sheet was passed out in class along with the Blue Study Guide on Thursday, February 27th.  Use Blue Study Guide to help you complete Green Study Sheet.  If you can't find it on Blue Stud Guide, use textbook, lecture notes,or look it up.  Green Study Sheet attached.
